A school trip to the Humanity House
A visit to Humanity House is suitable for school children from the age of 10 and upwards and fits in with the Dutch primary school module “Orientation: Yourself and the World”. The museum is interactive and children rapidly learn about emergency relief and international humanitarian law, and how they are applied throughout the world. In the Humanity House school children experience how it feels like to be dependent on emergency aid and learn more about rules designed to protect people during wartime. During their visit, the children hear the true stories of people who survived a natural catastrophe or war. The experience creates an extremely vivid picture of what happens in other parts of the world, and lets children know what they can do to help.
Special educational program
A visit to Humanity House centres on self-discovery and personal experience. The visit begins with the experience through the museum, where children see, hear and feel what it’s like to rely on emergency relief. The information form the experience is very helpful by playing the Humanity Game. In this interactive game, the children find themselves facing an emergency. What aid needs priority? Safe drinking water or medicine? Or is material more needed to built shelters? They have to decide. The group that makes the right decisions wins the game.
Teaching materials
When you are planning a school trip to Humanity House, we will send you teaching materials in advance for a preparatory lesson. The information will introduce the class to emergency aid and international humanitarian law. The teaching package is suitable for children aged 10 and upwards (the top two primary school years).
