Lecture: How about the Immunities of International Organisations?

Traditionally, international organisations and diplomatic missions enjoy absolute immunity from the jurisdiction of national courts. What, however, does this mean for parties or individuals aggrieved by the actions of these organisations or missions? Do they have access to justice, or not?

In a presentation highly relevant to the international community in The Hague, Rishi Gulati, Australian Barrister currently based in London, will discuss the immunities that international organisations and diplomatic missions enjoy. In ‘Recent developments concerning the Immunities of International Organisations and Missions: A comparatieve perspective’, Rishi will identify typical types of disputes, including disputes between international organisations and their own staff. Because these types of disputes happen more frequently, they offer a very fertile ground for analysis. Based on this analysis, Rishi will explain how the principles on immunities currently develop and what, if any, scope for improved access to justice they provide.
