President ICC

The International Criminal Court (ICC) is the world’s first permanent international criminal institution mandated to prosecute and try suspected perpetrators of war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide and the crime of aggression. The ICC was founded in 2002 and is located in The Hague. It is an independent international organisation and governed by the Rome Statute, which is ratified by 122 states, but excluding major powers such as the United States, China and Russia.

About Sang-Hyun Song

Judge Sang-Hyun Song (1941) from the Republic of Korea has been Judge at the ICC since 2003 and was elected President in March 2009. He has extensive practical and academic experience in the areas of court management, civil and criminal procedure, and the law of evidence. As president of the ICC Song will share his views on the ICC as a key instrument of international justice and an essential building block for the stability and prosperity of the world. He will talk about the relationships between international justice, rule of law and development, and the ICC’s role in this regard.
