Lost in Lebanon

An estimated 13 million people have been displaced since the Syrian conflict began in 2011, a large number of them making their way across the border into neighbouring Lebanon. The documentary Lost in Lebanon closely follows four Syrians as they struggle to rebuild their lives in Lebanon. After the movie, we will talk with the film makers and Tineke Ceelen, director of Stichting Vluchteling.

In Lebanon, there are currently more than a million Syrian refugees. They are forced to rebuild their lives in impossible circumstances. Lost in Lebanon explores the lives of four such refugees, putting a human face on an unimaginably vast tragedy.

In the film we see Sheikh Abdo, who sets up his own school and provides education to the Syrian children. We also follow the voluntary teacher, Nemr, still a teenager himself. Meanwhile we see artist Mwafak who desperately tries to survive in the streets of Beirut, without legitimate papers. The fourth is architect Reem, who organizes self-help programs for new refugees.

After the movie, we talk about the current situation of Syrians in Lebanon, with Georgia and Sophia Scott, makers of the film, and Tineke Ceelen, director Stichting Vluchteling who recently travelled to Lebanon.

About the program

This programme is organised in cooperation with Stichting Vluchteling in light of the Night of the Refugee 2018. At midnight sharp, thousands of people will start their 40 kilometre walk in different cities around the country. They walk to raise funds for emergency aid for refugees worldwide.
