Before Summer Ends

SORRY, THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT

After studying in France for five years, Arash still doesn’t feel at home and decides to return to Iran. His friends Hossein and Ashkan, however, do not agree with this decision and organise a camping trip. As a goodbye or to convince Arash to stay in France with them. On the road it turns out that his friends also miss their homeland, but they cannot return as easily, because of Iran’s mandatory military service and because of their new lives in France.

Before Summer Ends is a documentary about a road trip, right through the beautiful French landscape. We see the friends traveling, drinking, lounging and talking about their lives here and there. A feel-good and melancholic film about friendship and feeling at home, about cultural differences and how you can fall in between two different cultures. In these last days of summer, the men will have to make a decision.

GOOD TO KNOW

Director: Maryam Goormaghtigh
Length: 80 minutes
Subtitels: English subtitles

The open air film can only start at sunset, which is around 9.30 pm. If it rains we will screen the film in our (covered) Genève Room. Drinks and snacks are available on the terrace during the movie.

Make sure to come on time so you can also visit The Sensory Pod: a special cabin that enriches the audiovisual experience of VR glasses with odor, temperature, wind, vibration and light. The Sensory Pod lets you personally meet Syrian refugees who had to exchange their own house for a refugee camp in Lebanon.

Review / interview

Maryam Goormaghtigh’s bromance road-trip ‘Before Summer Ends’ is technically a documentary, but edited to look and feel like a fictional feature. Goormaghtigh talked with Variety about the film, and her guiding principles when directing and working with non-professional actors. Read the interview at the Variety website.
