Hague Talks: Is there justice for survivors of gender-based violence?

How do we ensure justice for survivors of gender-based violence? How do we protect and support them? And how do we address harms in different legal systems varying from centuries old customary practices to international law and norms? On UN day three human rights practitioners with vast experience at the national and international level talk about their experiences and life-time motivation to pursue justice for survivors of gender-based violence.

Speakers

  • Cecilia Jimenez-Damary, a human rights lawyer from the Philippines, shares her experience as UN Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Internally Displaced Persons.
  • Zainab Malik, a Pakistani human rights lawyer, has provided legal representation to prisoners on death row, and survivors of sexual violence and police torture.
  • Teresa Mugadze, a human rights lawyer from Zimbabwe, currently working in Liberia, affiliated with IDLO.

Joining the dialogue will be more than twenty experienced IDLO practitioners working to advance justice for survivors of gender-based violence in countries as diverse as Afghanistan, Liberia, Myanmar, Honduras, Mexico and Mongolia. Be part of this dialogue and share your thoughts, ideas and experiences about pursuing justice for victims of human rights abuses.
