Rules in wartime

Combine your museum visit with a presentation on International Humanitarian Law (IHL), given by the Red Cross. The IHL tries to make armed conflicts a little bit more humane. The main rules are simple:

  1. Save civilians, wounded and sick soldiers, prisoners of war and medical workers.
  2. Don’t use weapons that can’t make a difference between fighters and civilians or cause unnecessary suffering and damage.

During the presentation, an experienced Red Cross volunteer talks about questions such as: What are the dilemmas you encounter as a rescuer in a conflict area? Which parties are involved in a conflict? And which rules apply during conflicts?

The presentation is always given by one or two experienced Red Cross volunteers who match the group as much as possible. They make sure the materials are up to date and regularly review the presentations. In addition, they can also tailor the presentation to meet certain requirements of the group. For example by discussing a certain topic in-depth or by making the presentation more interactive.
